Who doesn’t like a crime thriller series? But if you are hooked to the crime genre in the US or UK television then stick to that because the Hindi offerings aren’t up to that mark (of course a personal opinion). Overuse of BGM and melodrama often kills the vibe of a true thriller series. But again that doesn’t mean, good shows never come up. Look at Sacred Games, Mirzapur, Delhi Crime, or Smoke web series online - they are good examples. Now in comparison to these already “good content” shows, how good is the new web series Flesh?

Read below to know that.
Zoya Gupta played by Mahima Makwana, a 16-year-old girl is kidnapped from a wedding function in Mumbai. Her parents, played by Vidya Malvade and Yudhishtir Urs seek help from the local police. The case is then taken up by a fearless police officer named Radha Nautiyal played by Swara Bhaskar. She then digs deep into this case which is a big gang of people operating sex trafficking. While investigating this case, little did Radha know that there will be people from the law enforcement bodies with strong political lineage who would be involved in this deep, dark, and mysterious business.
The best thing about the Flesh web series is that Danish Aslam has deviated from the conventional form of story-telling mostly seen in crime-based shows dealing with violence and human trafficking. Flesh web series on Mzaalo has a bare-it-all way of story-telling with absolute honesty. The terrific writer of Andhadhun fame Pooja Ladha Surti has also included some heinous scenes that some people who can’t digest ghastly things must avoid.
The director and the writer both are fearless just like Radha because the audience would be forced to think deeply (actually loathe) about the inhuman treatment these characters subject each other to. Swara Bhaskar as Radha was tailor-made for this role. You have seen Swara Bhaskar off-screen giving interviews or speaking up for various issues or simply giving a lesson to her trollers - right? Thus, she already has an attitude of “never give up” and is very “muhfat”. Radha is exactly these aforementioned things. Radha’s choice of drugs is running after and catching the goons. When she is off duty, she brings bad men home and then throws them out at gun-point at dead of the night.
On the other end, you are introduced to Taj played by Akshay Oberoi. He is a sadist and without blinking, he can unleash his pet on a sex worker for calling him gay. Akshay in his role was outstanding. He was unhinged, demented, and his character had no regard for humility, kindness, and humanity.
So far so good…
But the cog in the wheel is the “melodrama” at certain points which simply drag the narrative. The background music could have been better for a show like this.
In totality, the Flesh web series is a must-try with a few bumps (and that’s ok).
