Deepika Padukone recently took to her social media account and resigned as the chairperson of MAMI. This highest-paid Bollywood actress was appointed as the chairperson of MAMI in 2019.

MAMI or Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image is a public trust that organizes the annual international film festival in Mumbai known as the Mumbai Film Festival (MFF). The reason as stated by Deepika Padukone is nothing but her current commitment to work.

On Monday, 12th April 2021, this Bajirao Mastani actress shared this news with the world. She said, “Being on the board of MAMI and serving as chairperson has been a deeply enriching experience. As an artist, it was invigorating to bring together cinema and talent from all over the world to Mumbai, my second home.”

Deepika further added, “I have come to realize, however, that with my current slate of work, I will be unable to give MAMI the undivided focus and attention it requires. I depart knowing that MAMI is in the best hands possible and that my bond and connection with the academy is one that will last a lifetime.”

Back in 2019 during her opening statement as the chairperson of MAMI, Deepika stated, “Cinema has the power to make us less lonely when we are. In the age of digital streaming and social media that is slowly but surely is isolating us, the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI) binds us without boundaries, inhibitions, and most importantly without fear. As an artist who truly believes in the power of cinema, I say we need this more than ever before.”

This was the first time that a mainstream Bollywood leading lady was appointed for this position and her fans were excited. A part of her fandom would be disheartened to hear this news but given her terrific line of upcoming Bollywood projects, there is no doubt that her admirers and fans would be disappointed for long.

Reposting Deepika’s post, Anupama Chopra, the director of MAMI wrote on her social media account: “Thank you for your time and your generosity @deepikapadukone! It was a pleasure working with you.”

Deepika is awaiting the release of ’83 - a sports drama directed by Kabir Khan that will show the journey of the Indian Cricket Team in the 1983 Cricket World Cup. She is playing the role of Romi Bhatia, the wife of Kapil Dev played by Deepika Padukone’s husband Ranveer Singh.

She will also be seen in Yashraj Production’s big-budget Bollywood movie named Pathan co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham. Another Dharma Production movie directed by Shakun Batra is also on the cards. Deepika will also be seen in a cameo appearance in Rohit Shetty’s remake of the Classic Bollywood Movie Angoor titled Cirkus.

Deepika Padukone is also producing and featuring in the official remake of Hollywood Hit Movie The Intern alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
