Ahead of her birthday on 8th June, here is a list of 8 movies of Dimple Kapadia post-2000 that made her an evergreen Hit among the new-age audience: -

Cocktail (2012)

Director: Homi Adajania

Dimple played Kavita Kapoor- mother of Gautam Kapoor played by Saif Ali Khan. Kavita’s only dream in life is to see her son Gautam settle down with one girl. She hates the fact that Gautam keeps floundering from one woman to another. People in her posh Delhi society also talk about Gautam’s nature and they are also keen to know when Gautam announces marriage. Kavita relies on her brother Tinku (played by Boman Irani) to look after Gautam as both of them stay in London. Being the elder sister, Kavita knows how to keep a check on her younger brother even from a distance. Kavita has done much for her family and these boys know that - perhaps that’s why they don’t want to irritate her. Dimple was simply outstanding in her small role here. Her possessiveness for her son, eagerness to get a daughter-in-law, and hard outside but soft inside behavior with most of the people made her a favorite. LBC is the best movie made in the Hindi film industry. Dimple Kapadia played Neena Walia - a yesteryear superstar who is preparing to launch her daughter into movies. She is described as “a crocodile in a chiffon saree” in the movie. Dimple brought her natural warmth and softness to this character and when required she turned into a hard and cold villain too with ease. A renowned film critic even addressed Neena Walia as “gloriously bitchy”. The best thing about Neena Wali was that she wasn’t afraid of being vain yet vulnerable at the same time.

What The Fish (2013)

Director: Gurmmeet Singh

This is the story of Sudha Mishra, an old lady who stays alone in her house. She is divorced and her son also stays away. Sudha decides to visit her son and thus hands over the responsibility of her house to her niece’s boyfriend, Sumit. Being an old and lonely lady in a city, Sudha is obviously skeptical about trusting anyone and everyone. She questions a lot and doubts everything said by everyone. That’s not her mistake because staying alone makes you become a detective of sorts. She has turned into this irate old woman because she knows she has to take care of herself. But the fish named “Mishti” and her plants are her best friends. She talks to them and spends her lonely hours. In her absence, Sumit is not only the sole caretaker of the house. The house changes hands and thus becomes a mess when Sudha arrives. You will get to see another beautiful and believable performance by Dimple Kapadia.

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Director: Farhan Akhtar

As Tara Jaiswal, Dimple was breath-taking. A middle-aged divorcee and alcoholic woman, Tara is an interior designer. She isn’t allowed to meet her daughter and that feeling keeps killing her slowly. She moves next door to Siddharth played by Akshaye Khanna, a much younger man whom she befriends. Sid falls in love with her. Dimple portrayed the sad life of a lonely woman beautifully.

Being Cyrus (2005)

Director: Homi Adajania

The story of this Black comedy movie is narrated from the point of view of Cyrus Mistry played by Saif Ali Khan. He is coaxed by Kathy Dinshaw (Dimple Kapadia) to murder her father-in-law Fardoonjee so that she can spend more time with her brother-in-law, Farrokh (Boman Irani). As Kathy Dimple was charming, sexy, possessive, cunning, and imprudent all at the same time.

Finding Fanny (2014)

Director: Homi Adajania

One must say Homi Adajania has always given the neatly drawn unconventional yet ferocious roles to Dimple Kapadia in her 3rd innings in Bollywood post-2000. This was her 3rd collaboration with Homi Adajania and here she plays Rosie Eucharistica. Rosie agrees to go on a road trip across Goa with her son’s widow Angie. Ferdie, Don Pedro, and Savio also accompany in this trip that becomes a mad ride. Watch Dimple at her funny best in this movie.
